ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Douglas
County Historical Society was held at the Dole Institute for Politics on
November 9, 2004. After the meal, Board
Chair, Jerry Niebaum called the business meeting to order. He welcomed everyone then recognized the
Ballots for election of Board of Directors were distributed to those who had not mailed in their ballots. Niebaum reviewed the election process.
Treasurer Bob Piller distributed the financial figures for the year from January to September. Niebaum explained the budget for the year including how the society’s budget was projected to have a deficit of more than $36,000, but due to contributions, memberships and pledges over and above, the income so far has been $60,000 higher than 2003 currently showing a net gain of $16,484. The first phrase of a fund-raising campaign has ended and the second phrase is in process. A thank you was given to Board member Lew Phillips for his diligent work on the campaign.
Niebaum introduced Museum Director, Rebecca Phipps. She gave a report on the activities and statistics of the Museum throughout the year.
The results of the election were announced and a drawing held to designate which members would serve the three terms of office that were vacant and which members would serve the full three year terms. Bennett Griffin will serve a two-year term; Charles Derby and Steve Sublett will each serve a one-year term. The other candidates, Napoleon Crews, Phil Humphrey, Ralph King, Jim Martin, Bill Myers, and Lynne Zollner will each serve a three-year term.
Niebaum introduced the evening speaker, Thom Alexander and his staff from the American Music Academy. Interspersing songs with dialogue, they talked about the work of the Academy, including the musical need it is fulfilling in the area.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
