Norman R. Yetman

Norman R. Yetman is Emeritus Chancellors Club Teaching Professor of American studies and sociology at the University of Kansas, where he was also a courtesy professor of African and African American studies. Yetman received his doctorate in American civilization from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969 and joined the University of Kansas faculty in 1966. He served three stints as chair of the KU American Studies Program and one as chair of the Department of Sociology. He has researched and lectured on topics dealing with American society and culture in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia. His major scholarly interests focused primarily on issues involving race, ethnicity, immigration, religion, and sport in American life. From 1991 to 2005 he served as co-editor (with David Katzman) of the transdisciplinary journal American Studies, and he has written or edited several books on race and ethnicity.
