My wife and I moved to Lawrence in 1999 from Richardson Texas when my wife accepted a position at the Beach Center at K.U. I have an undergraduate degree and an MBA from Penn State University. We have three adult children in various parts of the country. I have retired from Amoco Oil Corporation and presently do market consulting. My volunteer work includes Habitat for Humanity and Watkins Community Museum. I especially enjoy working in the Archives area of the museum. Dennis Palmer My husband and I moved to Lawrence in 1985 from Vancouver, British Columbia, drawn by the University of Kansas. I now hold a Ph.D. in English from KU and was until recently a lecturer in the English Department. My specialty is Victorian literature and culture. I have published poetry and an article on the memoirs of Victorian actresses. Other research interests include women and bicycling in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Presently I work as a substitute teacher for USD 497 and do volunteer work for the Lawrence Arts Center as well as the Watkins Community Museum. Deb Pye

Volunteers are needed at the Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Massachusetts, and the Museum has a niche just for you! Call 841-4109 to see how you can serve your community while enjoying the perks of being a volunteer!!

Volunteers are an integral part of museums. In museums of all sizes and types, in all regions of the country, volunteers join in partnership with trustees and paid staff to carry out the mission of their institutions. A recent study of the American Association of Museums indicates that more than 375,000 volunteers serve America's museums.

Volunteers make essential and widely recognized contributions to museums. They work as a team with paid staff, and they help to create programming that would not otherwise exist. They help transform the mission of the museum into reality. They are a link between museums and their community, bringing the voice of the community into the museum and representing the museum among its audiences. If any of
the above sounds like something you want to be a part of, then...

WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU
