Showcasing a Collection: How to Effectively Display an Artifact

11/29 @ 8:00 am 12/31 @ 5:00 pm

The Watkins Museum is partnering with the Douglas County Community Foundation on their year-end Giving for Good campaign to raise money to help us purchase display cases and custom mounts for artifacts. To donate online, click the donate button below. To donate via check, send and make checks payable to the Douglas County Community Foundation and include DCHS in the memo line.

Currently, the museum has several artifacts waiting to go on temporary and permanent display in 2023. These include loaned artifacts from various community organizations and partners, the newly acquired tuxedo Oscar-winner Kevin Willmott wore to the Academy Awards ceremony, a pitcher from Lawrence’s first Mexican restaurant, The El Tampico Club, and a cowboy hat signed by several Hollywood movie stars from The Dark Command. Your donation helps ensure these artifacts are properly exhibited and can be enjoyed by museum visitors by funding the design and construction of custom display cases and mounts. With your help, we can continue to showcase Douglas County’s unique and diverse material culture.
