Not a Straight Path: The Fight for Queer Rights in Lawrence

In 2020, the Lawrence Gay Liberation Front (LGLF) passed its 50th anniversary as the first recognized LGBTQ+ organization on the University of Kansas campus. Unable to celebrate the milestone last year, Watkins Museum joins KU in their LGLF 50+1 commemoration plans by unveiling an exhibit dedicated to local LGBTQ+ history in Lawrence. Not A Straight Path: The Fight for Queer Rights in Lawrence uses photographs, documents, and artifacts to trace LGLF’s struggle for campus recognition, Lawrence’s LGBTQ+ community working together to gain greater social and civic equality, and the campus and community traditions started by the Lawrence LGBTQ+ community that continue today.
