Freddy is the son of Albert and Freda Gipp and the grandson of the late Burgess and Millicent Tapedo. He is an enrolled member of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma.  

A graduate of the University of Kansas, where he studied advertising and marketing at the William Allen White School of Journalism. Gipp would go on to start his own consulting firm called Lead Horse LLC that specializes in cultural tourism and recreational traveling opportunities for both urban and rural Native communities.
